Recycling and repurposing used plastic waste needs to be at the forefront of the fight against pollution. With millions of tons of plastic getting dumped into the world’s oceans every year, we need to do something to make a positive impact – and luckily, there are many creative people doing just that.
Madiba&Nature, a non-governmental organization from Cameroon, has found yet another incredible way to reuse plastic – make boats out of it. To build the boats, the organization uses wasted plastic bottles. The project is an invention of Essome Ismael – a young Cameroonian who has a very clear vision when it comes to his goals. Ismael wants to reduce plastic waste in aquatic, marine, as well as urban environments in the country, which would allow for a better adaptation to climate change.
The organization is made up of Cameroonian student researchers who describe themselves as “working to promote the circular economy in order to ensure the conservation of nature and its biodiversity.” The project is not only reusing a large number of plastic waste, which helps preserve but helping the local community as well!
