Glasgow’s first zero waste micro cafe opens – in a Tardis

By Stacey Mullen

Glasgow Times: Glasgow’s iconic Tardis police box is operating as the city’s first zero waste micro cafe.

Brew Box Coffee was opened in Argyle Street in January by Laura Camerron who transformed the Tardis with a helping hand from her dad.

It is opened from 8.45am to 4pm, seven days a week, and the menu usually includes two sandwiches, a soup and/or street food with some tasty baking to go with fresh tea or coffee.

But the firm stand out – because they are striving to be a zero-waste business. Absolutely everything is hand packaged in biodegradable packaging, down to the fresh coffee pods which Laura then takes to her South Side allotment for composting.

She only makes enough for each day, changing the menu and exploring more options as she goes on.

So far she has served tasty delights including Italian Lemon, Basil chicken and Southern American pimento cheese ‘Piece Parcels’, a vegan Sri Lankan peanut soup and a ridiculously tasty gluten free brownie.

Laura said:  “My hash tag is #weeplacebigtaste. I want to emphasise that I may be a wee place but I am not here for a wee while. I mean business when it comes to good local, handmade food and great tasting coffee and I’m going to do my damnedest to make sure Glasgow gets the best of me and the service they deserve.”
